Port of Call Montevideo

Montevideo: unique Cruise Ship port

For many cruceros visiting South America, Montevideo is the only port to offer the amenities of a major city. Outside of Buenos Aires, where many cruises start or end, the other stops on the typical South American are small ports, vacation resorts or out of the way locations such as the Falkland Islands, Punta del Este or Ushuaia.

The purpose of this site is to give you an idea of the interesting things to do during you stopover in Montevideo and provide some answers ahead of time to the questions we often hear from visitors.

Your cruise ship will dock at Montevideo’s busy commercial port close to the ciudad vieja (old city) section of the city. Ciudad vieja is a thumb shaped piece of land jutting into the Rio de la Plata. Approximately 7 city blocks wide by 12 block long, the area is the oldest part of the city with streets of old homes and buildings in various states of disrepair and rejuvenation. Ciudad vieja is home to many business, banks and government offices which allow visitors to be able to partake of local establishments without paying jacked up tourist rates.

¡Bienvenidos! in advance.
