The main leather shops have shuttle buses that run right from the dock to their stores and back.
A word of caution: The leather shops are 7-8 blocks from the main port and tourist area along a single block. The immediate surroundings are a little rough looking. Montevideo is safe during daylight hours, but this block is away from where the tourist police patrol the streets. It is best to take the shuttle back to the port before continuing your exploration of Montevideo.
