Port of Call Montevideo

Walking Tours

If you are interested in seeing the sights of Montevideo there are several options.

  • Aboard ship or prior to departure you will be able to schedule aboard a group tour. These tours are well done and give and extended view of Montevideo or out to one of the local wineries for food and drink. The major drawbacks are the price and the fact that they will take of a large portion of your time in Montevideo.
  • Taxi cab tours: There will be taxis waiting right at the dock to offer city tours for a flat rate. The biggest downside of taking a taxi is their compact size. Montevideo taxis have very little passenger room and an extended tour could become quite uncomfortable. Getting a taxi driver that can converse in English might also be a problem.
  • Guided tours (local): There are individuals who will be at the port offering vehicle and walking tours. The quality of these tours range from OK to very good. If you know you want a top notch tour, we suggest you book in advance with Liz at Real English Tours. Their website will give you the details of what types of tours are available.

The Uruguay department of tourism will have maps for self-guided walking tours available at the port exit, but if you are a fan of beautiful old buildings and the history behind them, we highly recommend you book a guided walking tour and make your stay in Montevideo truly memorable!
